An easy walk on a level road for everyone, also for families with little children and strollers. A classic walk for those who are on holiday in Andalo and it's a beloved walk for the villagers too!

The walk around the Lake of Andalo is entirely flat, it's very pleasant and it's next to the playground of the Andalo Life.

In the background you can see the Brenta Dolomites on one side and, on the other side, there's the Paganella. The ground is paved and wide, so you can easily go with the stroller too.

In the lake there's an incredible variety of plants and flowers that color the surface with different shades, according to the season.

You can often meet friendly ducks and geese that enjoy the quiet of the lake and amuse the children that are going around the lake on a walk or on the mini train.

The lake that appears and disappears

The Lake of Andalo, is located at 998m above sea level, at the foot of the mount Piaz Galin, Brenta Dolomites.

It's a magical place. In fact, during some periods of the year, such as the thaw in springtime, or in autumn, its basin fills with water. During other seasons instead, such as in summer, the water disappears, as if by magic. Think abut the fact that this lake is one of the 8 lakes in the world that does this trick.

Do you know why this happens? A long time ago, its bottom was filled with pebbles of glacial origin but, with the passing of the years, they started disappearing, and so this resulted in the formation a periodical lake, the only one in Trentino.

Have you noticed that there aren't any rivers or streams that enter or exit the lake? The water exchange happens underground. The basin is 1450m long and 13m deep, but its size varies according to the rainfall.

The tubing that you can see on one extremity has been recently built in order to avoid floods. The last time that a flood happended, it was the 17th November of 2000. On that day, the water of the lake covered all the playground and submerged the game room too.

During summer you can walk or take the mini train around the lake of Andalo. It's forbidden to go with the bikes from 10.00am - 12.00pm / 3.00pm - 7.00pm.

In winter, with the snow coming, another magic happens. The walk around the lake becomes a slope for the Cross-country ski Center and you can only enter with skis by paying the entracne ticket.
